Determination of temperature and concentration field in reactor for steam conversion of methane under pressure, with nonuniform radiation to furnace tubes

Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

An electrolytic bath method has been used to investigate the temperature field in the cross-section of a reaction tube for the steam conversion of methane when its lateral surface is heated nonuniformly.

  2. 2.

It has been found that the drop in temperature with respect to radius of the reaction tube is 70–100°C, which is 10–40°C greater than with uniform heating.

  3. 3.

The difference between the mean lateral surface temperature and the minimum temperature with respect to the section is approximately 24°C greater with nonuniform radiation than with uniform.

  4. 4.

A variation of radiation coefficient around the tube perimeter will lead to a greater change in temperature profile in the tube cross-section than is obtained with a constant radiation coefficient.

  5. 5.

Temperature nonuniformities with respect to the cross-section of each tube can be decreased by selecting the appropriate diameter for tubes in the reactor.
