Effect of solvent composition and ketone content on dewaxing distillate and residual raffinates from sour crudes

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

The effect of ketone content of the solvent in dewaxing the more viscous feedstocks is analogous to that observed in dewaxing low-viscosity raffinates.

  2. 2.

The limits of ketone content of the dewaxing solvent have been determined approximately. Ketone contents above the limit give much lower oil yields.

  3. 3.

Under optimum dewaxing conditions, the replacement of acetone by methyl ethyl ketone can improve the filtration rate by 10–36% and the TED by 2–7°C; here there is observed a 3–10°C increase in filtration temperature.
