Investigation of the depolymerization stability of a viscosity-index improver, the copolymer of isobutylene with isopropenyl-p-xylene

Summary

  1. 1.

    The depolymerization stability of a copolymer of isobutylene with isopropenyl-p-xylene was studied in a solution of turbine oil L.

  2. 2.

    It was found that the depolymerization stability decreases with increasing copolymer molecular weight.

  3. 3.

    The introduction of an aromatic ring into the polyisobutylene macromolecule increases its stability to thermal depolymerization.

  4. 4.

    Copolymers of isobutylene with isopropenyl-p-xylene can be used as viscosity-index improvers with good viscosity-temperature properties.
