Abstract

The mechanism of transfer of carbon in sodium was studied. On the basis of experimental data the activation energy for carburizing type 18/8 steel was calculated. The activation energy for transfer of carbon in sodium calculated from experimental results agreed with published data. It was concluded that the main controlling stage in the transfer of carbon in the system studied is the diffusion of carbon in type 18/8 steel.
