New indices for evaluating fuel carbon-deposition characteristics

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

A method has been proposed for rating the carbon-deposition characteristics of fuels on the basis of deposit number (DN) and insulation number (IN). Introduction of these indices will broaden considerably the concepts of research workers and testers, not only in relation to the tendencies of fuels toward carbon deposit formation but also as a basis for judging certain properties of carbon deposits formed in the combustion of these fuels.

  2. 2.

The deposit number and insulation number provide a means for studying in greater detail the efficiency of antideposit and other multifunctional fuel additives
