Conclusions

  1. 1.

We have presented a generalized and unified graphic diagram of the nonthrough hardenability effect in steel and determined the region of preferential use in a generalized diagram or with a combination of limiting conditions.

  2. 2.

Dimensionless quantitative data on hardenability are used for comparative analysis, of nonthrough hardenability effects.

  3. 3.

The concept of quantitative data on the stress distribution in the hardened section as fractions of the strength of the surface layer permits quantitative analysis of the load and the resistance of the material to this load at any point of the cross section without reference to the absolute values of the variables.
