Abstract

Within linearised general relativity the energy loss of the spinning rod due to its gravitational radiation damping is calculated numerically for arbitrary rotational speeds. Comparison shows that the classical low-velocity approximation is good until rotational speeds of the ends of the rod of about 1/3 of the velocity of light.
