Conclusions

Heat treatment of steel 11Kh18M-ShD does not ensure the necessary level of hardness if the steel as-received consists of peartlite, isolated sections of ferrite, and a small quantity of excess carbides. Therefore, we suggest that the microstructure of steel 11Kh18M-ShD in the annealed condition be given for each shipment of the steel.

Quenching of steel 11Kh18M-ShD from low temperatures (1050°) and tempering at 150, 200, and 460° increases the wear resistance and reduces the change in the dimensions of bearing parts in the process of heat treatment, with retention of fairly high corrosion resistance, contact fatigue strength, and red hardness.
