Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Most important for ensuring abrasive wear resistance of steels are the hardness, work of crack propagation, and impact toughness, corresponding to the brittle-ductile transition, and the product of tensile strength and the relative reduction of area.

  2. 2.

For impact wear with an impact energy of more than 5kJ the wear-resistance criterion and breaking strength coincide, thus making it possible to choose a chemical composition of the steel and hardening conditions that ensure that high wear resistance is combined with breaking strength.
