Suicidal behavior in mentally retarded adolescents: An overlooked problem

Abstract

Three cases of suicidal behavior manifested by mentally retarded psychiatric inpatient adolescents are described. The concept of suicidal potential in light of the cognitive deficit of mentally retarded individuals is discussed. The authors suggest that suicide and suicidal behavior are overlooked in mentally retarded individuals.
