Kinetics of the afterglow of a He-Ne plasma

  • Published:
Journal of Applied Spectroscopy Aims and scope

Abstract

The oscillation mechanism is examined for the afterglow in a high-current pulsed He-Ne discharge. Optical pumping (He lamp) shows that 23S He atoms play a part in exciting the 2s levels of neon. The spontaneous emission from the Ne 2s and 2p levels indicates different rates of depopulation in the afterglow. The effects of minor components are examined. Oscillation on lines of nitrogen and H2 is obtained in the afterglow.
