Conclusions

  1. 1.

The maximum abrasion resistance of type G13 steel is observed with a content of 0.8% C and 12% Mn and the maximum impact-abrasion resistance with 12% Mn and 1% C. The steel with 0.8% C and 12% Mn has the maximum impact strength.

  2. 2.

The abrasion and impact-abrasion resistance of manganese steel depend upon the boron and vanadium contents in it. The steel with 0.01% B and 1.2% V possesses the maximum abrasion resistance and the steel with 0.11% B and 2.5% V the maximum impact-abrasion resistance.

  3. 3.

To obtain high wear resistance of manganese steel it is necessary that it have a (ɛ+γ)- or (α+ɛ+γ)-structure with a small quantity of α-martensite.

  4. 4.

The proposed quantitative relationships make it possible to select the optimum composition of the steel in accordance with service conditions.
