Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Silicon carbide can be used for deoxidation of high-temperature salt baths. It lowers the decarburizing activity and corroding capacity of the fused salts and ensures stable operation of the bath.

  2. 2.

Silicon carbide should be added in small amounts: 0.12–0.17 wt.% of the salts.

  3. 3.

It is sufficient to deoxidize the bath with silicon carbidge every 8 h (at the beginning of each shift).
