Conclusions
-
1.
A considerable difference in grain size is found in quenched high-speed steel R6M5K5 even within the same sample.
-
2.
The average grain size varies with the size of excess carbides, while the difference in grain size varies with the distribution of carbides.
-
3.
With the same grain size the difference in grain size decreases with decreasing temperatures and increasing holding times during austenitizing.
-
4.
To eliminate differences in the grain size of large tools (diameter 50–100 mm) of high-alloy steels it is expedient to use steel obtained by P/M techniques.
