Conclusions
-
1.
Polymer-containing media greatly accelerate carburizing as compared with the standard carburizers commonly used.
-
2.
It was established by means of pyrolytic gas chromatography and electron paramagnetic resonance that saturation from polymer-containing media is ensured by active carbon atoms whose source is the low-molecular compounds of the volatile fraction of products of pyrolysis of the polymers and the pyropolymers formed during thermal destruction of high-molecular compounds.
-
3.
The polymer-containing carburizing paste developed (10–30% polystyrene, 10–30% polymethacrylate, and 40–80% binder-silicate glue or oil) is recommended for production.
