Conclusions

  1. 1.

The formation and growth of SR grains in alloy 50NP occur under conditions of the most intensive cubic texture of primary recrystallization, preventing normal grain growth. When the thickness of the band is reduced to 0.01 mm, accompanied by substantial weakening of the cubic texture, no secondary recrystallization is observed.

  2. 2.

Slow heating at primary recrystallization temperatures (700–800°) during high-temperature annealing stimulates SR grain growth.

  3. 3.

The addition of 1.25% Mn or 1.1% Mo and reduction of the silicon content to 0.05% increase the susceptibility of open induction heats to secondary recrystallization. Purification of heats with no additional elements in order to remove nonmetallic inclusions and gases accelerates SR.

  4. 4.

The orientation of SR grains is associated with the cubic orientation of primary recrystallization grains resulting from turning around 〈100〉 RD and close to {120} 〈001〉, or around 〈111〉, and is described by orientations {112} 〈UVW〉 and {112} 〈221〉. The composition of the heats and the annealing conditions have an effect on the preferential development of one orientation.
