Lasers excited by photodissociation: The thalliumiodide laser

Abstract

This review is concerned with lasers excited by photodissociation of molecules. The principle of photolytic excitation is described and a number of existing lasers is presented. As an example the properties of the thallium laser such as spectral and temporal emission, achievable gain and efficiency are discussed in detail.
