Summary

A new variant of the erythrocytic enzyme Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase was detected in two unrelated Greek individuals. The variant was designated G6PD Thessaly. It is characterized by normal levels of G6PD activity in the red cells and electrophoretic migration slower than G6PD B on phosphate and T.E.B. buffers while faster than G6PD B on Tris-HCl buffer. In addition, the Thessaly variant has distinctly decreased affinity for NADP.
