Evaluation of jet-cooled laser spectroscopy for simplifying infrared spectra

Results for CO, PF3, CF3Cl, cyclopropane, vinyl fluoride, and methylacetylene (propyne)

Abstract

The effect of jet cooling on the vibration-rotation spectra of several polyatomic molecules has been investigated using diode-laser absorption spectroscopy. Vibration-rotation spectra in jet expansions is considered in terms of several factors including rotational and vibrational distributions, line strengths and the rotational structure of individual bands. The diode-laser spectra of PF3, CF3Cl, C3H6, C2H3F, and CH3CCH recorded in a molecular beam are examined with the above criteria.
