Conclusions
-
1.
Diffusional chromizing of previously carburized alloys in hydrogen chloride and chromium produces even layers consisting of carbides of the M7C6 type regardless of the original chemical composition and density of the alloy.
-
2.
The distribution of chromium and iron concentrations in layers on P/M alloys and the microstructure of the layers are similar to those obtained on chromized hypereutectoid steels.
-
3.
The growth rate of the layer of carbides on the P/M alloys is independent of the composition and density of the alloy. It is somewhat lower than for chromized hypereutectoid steels.
-
4.
The brittleness of carbochromized P/M alloys after quenching and tempering generally matches standards No. 1 and 2 (grade 6 on the brittleness scale).
-
5.
The wear resistance is very high for P/M alloys based on iron.
