Spin dynamics in U2D2 solid3He

Pulsed NMR experiments have been performed on U2D2 solid3He with a single domain at high magnetic fields. It was found that the frequency of the free induction signal changed with time. In some cases, a large negative frequency shift of about 2 kHz from the Larmor frequency was observed some time after the rf pulse, after which frequency returned to that observed for a small tipping angle. The tipping-angle-dependent frequency shift, which was taken to be the precession frequency immediately following the rf pulse, agreed with Namaizawa's theory. The free induction signal showed a decay behavior similar to that of superfluid3He-A. This can be attributed to the instability of the uniform precession due to the creation of spin wave modes, but does not agree with the instability criterion predicted by Ohmi et al. and Shopova.
