Preparing vitreous coatings on metals by the sol-gel method

  • Published:
Glass and Ceramics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Protective vitreous coatings on steel obtained by the sol-gel technology are described, which consist of SiO2 with additions of up to 15 wt.% B2O3 and ZnO. Methods for preparing the initial solutions, depositing one-, two-, and three-layer coatings, and the temperature and time regimes of treatment are described. The physicochemical properties of film-forming solutions, gels, and coatings are investigated.
