Conclusions

  1. 1.

The laws governing diffusion saturation of metals in a fluidized bed of carbon-graphite materials were investigated and it was found that saturation is possible from both the solid and gaseous phases.

  2. 2.

Carburizing occurs in a fluidized bed at a rate five to seven times faster than in solid carburizer or in gas carburizing with pyrobenzol, but carburizing in an electrothermal bed occurs at the same rate as gas carburizing with use of high-frequency current.

  3. 3.

No oxidation of the surface of the samples or internal oxidation was observed in carburizing in a fluidized bed of carbon-graphite materials at the temperatures investigated. No hydrogen absorption was observed in carburizing of titanium in a fluidized bed even in contact with air.
