Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Cold hydrostatic extrusion under optimal conditions has a positive effect on the structure and properties of high-speed and die steels (Kh12M, Kh12F1).

  2. 2.

Hydrostatic extrusion reduces the carbide heterogeneity, produces finer austenite grains, increases the bending strength 10–20% and the fracture toughness as much as 60%, and increases the red hardness some-what.

  3. 3.

The service life of metal-cutting tools manufactured from hydrostatically extruded steels increases 50–100% and that of dies by 200–300%.
