Summary
“Normal values” for Mg and Ca concentrations in the blood serum mentioned in the bibliography vary considerably. These values frequently were obtained by studying relatively small collectives. After extensive evaluation of the different methods for determination the light electrical complexon titration described by Kortüm (1960) was used in order to determine the Mg and in addition the Ca concentrations in the blood serum of 142 healthy woman with normal cycles.
In the total collective the Mg as well as the Ca values are distributed normally. By breaking up the results into the single weeks of the cycle during the 3rd an 4th week for the Ca concentration no normal distribution was found, while in the other groups both values showed a normal distribution. The differences of the medium values during the individual weeks of the cycle are partly statistically significant. There are no correlations between the Ca- and Mg values in the individual weeks of the cycle found. For the total collective, however, a small correlation could be secured. Possible hormonal influences are discussed. True statements on this matter are not possible yet.
