Summary
According to present concepts hemorrhagic disorders in obstetrics are associated with an activation of the fibrinolytic system. Placental extracts were prepared of 100 normally separated placentas at term, of 40 placentas separated manually during cesarean sections and of 40 immature placentas. Neither water nor potassium thiocyanate soluble plasminogen activators could be demonstrated, but there is a high concentration of tissue activator in the myometrium. Placental extracts show a low concentration of plasminogen and a high concentration of plasmin inhibitors.
