Summary
-
1.
A lower body negative pressure according to the method of abdominal decompression (Heyns) was applied to 17 healthy volunteers. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate and cardiac output were measured during rest, the first, 8th and 9th decompression sessions and the Intervalls following the first and 8th application of subatmospheric pressure.
-
2.
Blood pressures and heart rate were recorded with the „Haemotonograph“ (Godart) using an arm cuff and a photoelectric element shaped as an ear clip. The determination of cardiac output was performed using the dichromatic Waters ear unit XE 302 and the Waters densitometer MD-40. Cardiogreen® was used as a dye.
-
3.
During abdominal decompression cardiac output decreases significantly by an average of 20 percent. The stroke volume diminishes because of the simultaneously increasing heart rate by about 30 percent.
-
4.
During abdominal decompression a state similar to a hypovolemic shock with decreased venous return as well as abdominal blood perfusion and blood pooling in the splanchnic area takes place temporarily. Immediately after the application of subatmospheric pressure the blood perfusion might be temporarily raised.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
