Conclusion

  1. 1.

With reduction of the testing temperature from +20 to −60°C the fatigue limit of samples of steels 45 and 40Kh increased. The effect of the scale factor with lowering of the temperature to −60°C was more pronounced; the fatigue limit decreased by 5–7% for samples 18 mm in diameter and 7–8% for samples 38 mm in diameter.

  2. 2.

The experimental data on the fatigue limits of improved steels 45 and 40Kh are described by equations of similitude with P=50% at room temperature and low temperature. The equations obtained can be used to determine the average values of the fatigue limits for parts operating at low temperatures (down to −60°C).
