Summary

It is pointed out to the difficulties of the localization of quartz dust in the tissues, the identification of which and the clarification of pathogeny of the silicosis as well as of the diagnosis and of the expert opinion. As quartz does not permit a histochemical reaction the localization and identification of the quartz dust was tried by contact microradiography of histological sections.

On the basis of a series of photos of the same lung-sections whith silicosis knots inDurchlichtmikroskop and with microradiography the interstitial tissues of the lungs as well as in the sphere of tylosis are shown first of all in the surrounding of absorbing rays which apparantly seem to be little parts of quartz. In a case of apatitsilicosis and at the same time whit the existence of calcium which likewise effects absorbing it is shown that calcium will be dissolved out of this section by weak hydrocloric acid so that only the not soluble dust parts are to be proved. At ossiferious silicosis knots the bone cells are shown up well. The cristal parts are accumulated on the connective tissue fiber. Their identification as quartz will still be made “per exclusionem”. Should the tendency to “monochromatical”—X-rays lead to a result then an elementary analysis will be possible as well as it is just now possible to carry out a determination of the dry weight of tissue out of the density of dark portions. This procedure promises new valuable results on other fields of research of the pathology and of the legal medicine.
