Abstract

Attention is drawn to a numerical coincidence which relates the cosmic radiant energy densityρ r , in the form of the cosmic microwave background, to microphysical constants (h, c, m e ,m p )and the Hubble time (τH)ρ r ∼(c 3 m p m 2 e /(h 2τH). A conjecture is made to explain the coincidence which involves the decay, on the gravitational time scale, of hypothetical particles in a steady-state cosmological model.
