Conclusions
-
1.
It was established that the transformation of steel into the heterophase condition is accompanied by the acceleration of phosphorus diffusion.
-
2.
The reduced susceptibility of steel to reversible temper brittleness after prolonged high-temperature tempering is due to more complete equalization of the phosphorus concentration in austenite grains.
-
3.
In selecting the heat treatment conditions (particularly for structural castings) it should be kept in mind that the structure of the steel can affect the diffusion of alloying elements and phosphorus.
