Conclusions
-
1.
It was shown possible to obtain borosiliconized coatings on iron and steel by the combined diffusion impregnation process using a mixture of boron carbide and borax and crys dline silicon and ammonium chloride.
-
2.
The thickness of the borosiliconized coating increases with rise in temperature and time of diffusion impregnation, and diminishes with increase in Si content in the reaction mixture and the content of carbon in the metal being impregnated.
-
3.
The borosiliconized coatings consist of chemical compounds of boron and silicon with iron FeB, Fe2B, FeSi, FeSi2 and solid solutions of boron and silicon in α-iron, and possess high hardness and heat resistance.
