Conclusions
-
1.
Raising the martempering temperature from 400–550° to 650° for 1 h and 675° for no more than 30 min induces no noticeable changes in the structure or physical, mechanical, and cutting properties of steels R12, R6M3, R9F5, R14F4, R9K10, and R18K5F2, and can be recommended for wide use.
-
2.
It is not recommended that the martempering temperature or time be increased beyond these limits to avoid imparing the strength, physical, and cutting properties of high-speed steels.
