Summary

Great technical improvements have been achieved during latest decades in binary star research (angular resolution, photometry, radial velocities). Consequently, there is now a significant overlapping among the traditional groups. Furthermore, we can tackle the study of couples where the companion is a submassive object.

More attention is now devoted to multiple systems, their structure and evolutionary story.

The scenario is now ready for a new insight into the problem of formation and evolution of stars.
