Flux density gradients in superconductors: A comparison of experimental techniques

Abstract

Experiments on the flux density distribution in two model system superconductors are reported. The results refer to the pinning forces of normal conducting Nb2N precipitates in Nb73Ta27alloys and of superconducting Pb3Na precipitates in PbNa single crystals. Both systems were investigated by two different techniques, the method of differential magnetization loops developed by Freyhardt and an improved version of a direct recording technique by stationary Hall probes reported by Weber. The results of both methods agree perfectly at the sample surface. Considerable differences are observed, however, in the interior of bulk samples.
