Properties of the flux line lattice in hysteretic type II superconductors. II. Neutron depolarization experiments

Abstract

Neutron depolarization experiments made on the same samples as investigated previously by neutron diffraction experiments (part I of this report) are presented. The correlations between crystal lattice and flux line lattice are shown to lead to a different field dependence of the average misalignment of the flux lines compared with polycrystalline materials. The average tilting angles are found to depend strongly on the magnetic field and to differ for increasing and decreasing fields in the same way as the mutual misorientations of singlecrystalline flux line blocks in the plane perpendicular to the field. For a known defect structure the tilting angles may be used to calculate the average displacement of the flux lines and the basic pinning forces.
