Conclusions
We recommend the following heat treatment for the cylinder sleeves of certain tractor and automobile engines; it ensures a high wear resistance and does not induce warping: a) annealing for stress relief, with heating at 75–100 deg/h to 580–600°C, soaking, cooling at the rate of 40–50 deg/h to 200°C; final machining, including honing; b) gas cyaniding 6 h at 560–580°C in a medium of 70% carburizing gas and 30% ammonia.
