Effect of modification on the cold brittleness of cast manganese steels

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Low-carbon manganese steels of the 10G2 type modified with 0.08–0.10% Al have a high impact toughness at negative temperatures as cast; the impact toughness decreases with increasing carbon concentrations.

     
  2. 2.

    The impact toughness of cast manganese steels is increased by modification with misch metal (0.15–0.25%, nominal).

     
  3. 3.

    The addition of titanium to steels of the 30G2 type modified with aluminum and misch metal slightly increases the impact toughness of the steel after quenching and tempering but has almost no effect after normalization.
