Generation of gamma rays by accreting neutron stars

Abstract

The spherically symmetric accretion of matter onto a neutron star with a weak magnetic field is shown to be accompanied by the generation of gamma rays due to the Comptonization of X=rays from the neutron star on the flow of incident plasma.
