Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Carburized chromium-manganese steel alloyed with boron (27KhGR) has high strength characteristics and can be recommended as a replacement for nickel-containing steels in manufacturing critical machine parts.

  2. 2.

The following heat and chemicothermal treatments are recommended for steel 27KhGR: a) normalizing of forgings at 900°C after drop forging; b) carburizing; c) oil quenching from 850–870°C; d) tempering at 170–200°C.
