Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The effect of vanadium (1–4%) is highest in steels with 3–6% Cr; steels with 12% Cr are inferior in hardness, strength, and ductility.

  2. 2.

The optimal vanadium content is 2.5–3.0% in steels with 3% Cr and 3–4% in steels with 6% Cr. In these steels the carbides are M7C3+MC.

  3. 3.

The combination of properties is best for the steel with 1.7% C, 6% Cr, 4% V, and 1% Mo, which is intended for cold compacting of ceramics and cermets.
