Conclusions

  1. 1.

The addition of niobium has a favorable influence on the mechanical properties of 25G2 manganese steel.

  2. 2.

Steels of the 25G2 type alloyed with 0.05–0.10% Nb have high ultimate strength and high yield strength; the ductility is decreased somewhat. Niobium decreases the cold-brittleness threshold of the steel.

  3. 3.

Titanium decreases the plasticity of the steel.

  4. 4.

Manganese steel alloyed with niobium must not be tempered at temperatures above 550°C because the mechanical properties of the steel become less favorable at higher temperatures.
