Use of laser beams for vaporizing materials in spectral analysis

  • Published:
Journal of Applied Spectroscopy Aims and scope

Abstract

It is shown that approximately 20% of the light energy of a laser beam incident on copper-zinc alloys is expended in the liberation and excitation of the alloy atoms. The remaining portion of the beam energy is lost in reflection from the metal surface. The fraction of energy reflected corresponds to the reflection coefficient of the metal.
