The continuing case for a hierarchical cosmology

‘... the wise man looks into space, and does not regard the small as too little, nor the great as too big, for he knows that there is no limit to dimensions’.

Abstract

The standard ‘Big Bang’ and hierarchical paradigms for describing the cosmos are discussed in terms of recent astrophysical discoveries. Three criteria established by G. de Vaucouleurs in 1970 as bases for deciding between these two cosmological models provide the main format of the discussion.
