Solar studies in China

Abstract

After a brief historical retrospect, this paper describes the present status of solar physics in China. Besides an overall account of the observational network, instrumentation, topics of research, personnal and international cooperation, emphases are laid on the works about the maximum year of the 21st cycle of solar activity, as well as observations of the solar total eclipses in 1968, 1980, and 1983. Section 5 presents a short description of the trends of further developments.
