Abstract
The spectrum of RR Telescopii in 1954 had a number of strong unidentified lines. To examine the possibility of some of these being due to Niiv we have calculated the energies of the 3d7 configuration of this ion. Estimates of the quantum-mechanical parameters have been made by extrapolation from known ions. Transition probabilities have been computed for magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole radiation for all possible transitions within the 3d7 configuration.
Several predicted forbidden lines are in the region of unidentified lines in RR Telescopii; calculated energies are insufficiently accurate for definitive identifications to be made, but further laboratory work might lead to several identifications.
