Abstract

Electrical conductance behavior of a number of symmetrical, univalent tetraamine- and bisethylenediamine cobalt (III) complex salts in liquid ammonia was investigated. Ion-pair association constants were obtained by applying the conductance equations of either Pitts, Fuoss or Lee and Wheaton. The association constants found are remarkably independent of the nature of the inner-sphere ligands, but are sensitive to the geometrical configuration (cis/trans) of the cobalt (III) cation and the radius of the anion. Walden products and Stokes' radii of the cations are presented and discussed.
