Evidence for a temperature rise in the outer layers of α Lyrae, fromCopernicus observations of lyman-α

Abstract

The wings of Lα in α Lyr (A0 V), observed by theCopernicus satellite, cannot be interpreted if one assumes a classical LTE model photosphere. We argue that the electron temperature must increase outwards over the surface value reached in radiative equilibrium.
