Abstract

Osmotic coefficients for aqueous solutions of sodium chloride + cobalt chloride and calcium chloride + cobalt chloride obtained by the isopiestic method are interpreted in terms of the Scatchard neutral-electrolyte treatment to derive activity coefficients of the solutes. Excess Gibbs energy of mixing are calculated, and difficulties in the evaluation of this quantity are discussed. The mixture parameters of Pitzer's method are evaluated for the two systems.
