Abstract
The dielectric properties of LiCl, CaCl2·2H2O, Ca(NO3)2·4H2O, Al(NO3)3·9H2O in 1-propanol solutions have been investigated using the dielectric time domain spectroscopy technique. The dielectric spectrum of 1-propanol in the 50 MHz-5GHz interval can be described by a single relaxation time. Addition of electrolyte leads to a lengthening of the mean relaxation time and a broadening of the spectrum. The LiCl solutions are characterized by a decrease in static permittivity\( \in _{\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{s} } \), while the hydrated 2:1 and 3:1 salts show an initial increase in ∈s. The data are discussed in terms of ion pairs, possible kinetic depolarization effects and a structuring influence by the hydrated cations on the propanol hydrogen bonded network.
